So I’m quite behind on my wine reviews for the site, but I guess that happens when the business side gets in the way of some of the more pleasurable parts of starting a wine club and export business.

So I opened a bottle from my last Napa trip with my wife and in laws about a week ago. It was the 2007 Tous Ensambles Syrah from Copain. Overall we had three of the four of us giving it very good drinkability scores. My wife did not agree the first night, but having hidden the last half glass in an effort to guesstimate how it would age…..she was able to try the next night and thought it was quite good after some time to open up.
The nose of the wine is a typical Syrah, at least to me as it is largely peppery coming through later with balanced flavors later on. Chocolate, raspberry and pepper all come through upon tasting. It retails for $20 a bottle and the guesses around the table went for $35-$50….so it is definitely well priced according to our very informal and unscientific tasting group….which matches what my business partner Matt and I thought when we originally tasted at Copain. My wife’s opinion, which matches my own(and Copain’s winemaker for that matter) is that the bottle should age well for a few years.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend a bottle, especially given the price it’s a great buy. As I’ve said before at Uncorked Ventures we appreciate the wine and people over at Copain and are looking forward to working with them.
